The story of theArai SKV-R is in the prestigious line of the "SK" series, helmets designed through karting enthusiasts for karting competitors.

For many years, the SK-6 model has been the essential helmet in the paddocks, the club level at the World Championships. It was the absolute reference for pilots who did not participate in automotive races, but which required the same quality of protection as in F1.

However, the karting has evolved: the chassis are more efficient, the curved speeds are higher and the physical requirements are constant. The FIA, in collaboration with Snell, decided to create a new security standard specifically for this sport, more demanding than the simple adaptation of automotive helmets.

THEArai SKV-R is born from this need. It is not a simple update of the SK-6. It has been completely redesigned from scratch to answer the standard FIA 8878-2024. Keeping the basic philosophy ofArai ("egg" shell "), but by incorporating new energy management technologies and a karting interior (and not to the car), the SKV-R is the first new generation karting helmet to see the day. At the heart of SKV-R is the renowned security philosophy ofArai, based on the concept ESF (Egg Shaped Form). His outer shell adopts an "egg" form, as smooth and rounded as possible. Q: What is the main difference between Snell K2025 and FIA 8878-2024 approval ?A: Certification Snell K2025 mainly concerns impact resistance and penetration. The new standard FIA 8878-2024, specific to karting, is much more complete. It requires not only criteria for protection against the more severe direct impacts, but also introduces requirements for protection against rotating impacts, energy management, the resistance of the visor and the ergonomics of the interior for the practice of karting. SKV-R meets both.

Q: Can I use the helmet Arai SKV-R for automotive competitions (rally, circuit?) ?A: NOT. SKV-R is approved exclusively for karting. It does not meet the FIA standards for the automobile (such as the FIA 8859 or FIA 8860) that requires different materials and higher fire resistance (especially at the screen and chin tree). Nor does it have inserts for the HANS / FHR system used in auto.

Q: How to clean the headset inside ?A: The interior of the SKV-R is fully removable and washable. It is recommended to remove the cap and cheek foams and wash them by hand with warm water with a gentle soap or a specific detergent for sports equipment. Rinse thoroughly and let dry open, away from a direct heat source. For daily maintenance, use a helmet disinfectant spray and always wear a hood to limit the dirt.

Q: Is the field of vision really better than on the SK-6 ?A: YES I DO. Arai rebellged the base of the chin tree to increase the visibility down approximately 8 mm. This may seem little, but in karting, it makes a real difference to visualize the steering wheel, the tachometer, the pedals and especially, the kart of the competitor just in front of your bumper.

Q: Is the VAS system compatible with the Tear-Offs of my old SK-6 ?A: NOT. The SKV-R Axis System (VAS) variable system uses a visor mechanism different from that of SK-6. Visors and Tear-Offs are not interchangeable between the two models. Make sure you order specific Tear-Offs for the SKV-R (or GP-6S) model.
