My expert advice: the steel is much heavier than the aluminium, but it is almost unusable. This is perfect if you do a lot of driving hours or if you have an engine that has a lot of 'couple' down.

The essentials with your steel crown:

• Chain 428 reinforced: Never raise a new crown with an old relaxed chain, you will 'bush' the crown teeth prematurely.

• Chain fat bomb (MOTUL or Lexoil) : Even in steel, a chain needs to be oily to limit heating.

• Crown holder (30 or 40 mm): Check the alignment between your motor sprocket and the crown. A bad alignment, and that's the insured break, even in steel!

How to choose your tooth?

1. The ratio: The more teeth you put to the crown (ex: 36 teeth), the more acceleration you will have (ideal for sinuous circuits).

2. Speed: The less teeth you put on (e.g. 23 teeth), the more speed you will have (ideal for long straight lines).

3. Mounting: Tighten your crown screws to the cross. A slightly 'veiled' crown at the mounting will create hard points in your transmission.

4. Tension: Always leave 1 to 2 cm of vertical beat on the chain. Too tight a chain destroys shaft and engine bearings.
