- 3. Tip in Michel (the corner of the expert)

* "Hi guys! The cork joint on the Tillotson, it's a classic, but it must be handled it with love.

My absolute trick: at the time of assembly, Never go up completely to dry. Moisten it very slightly with a drop of gasoline or clean engine oil before placing it. It will soften it and allow it to be well callets in its footprint without risking to crack when you go screwing the lid.

And watch out for the tightening of the small screws of the lid! If you tighten like a deaf, you will crush the cork, split it, and you will have a direct air intake. We squeeze, wisely, just to compress the material. "*

- 4. The replacement guide: step by step

1.Demontage:3 min.

Clean the outside of the carburetor to prevent dirt from falling in. Unscrew the top cover of the top cover of your tilotson and gently remove the old seal.

2.Nettoyage Joint plans:2 min.

Using a clean cloth and carburetor cleaner, gently scrape if there are old cork pieces glued on the aluminum body or on the lid. The seal plan must be nickel.

3.Place of the new seal:2 min.

Apply the trick to Michel (light humidification). Position the new cork seal well flat aligning the screw passage holes.

4.Remontage and tightening:3 min.

Rest the lid over. Engage all screws by hand. Take your screwdriver and tighten progressively and crosswise (diagonally) for the lid right straight and crushes the cork uniformly.

❓ 5. FAQ SEO (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: How often does the cork joint of his tillotson be replaced?

A: It is recommended that you replace this seal each time you open the lid of your carburetor to inspect the membranes (every 5 to 10 hours of approximately rolling). Once crushed and dried with gasoline, cork loses its elastic properties and tolerate the reassembly very poorly.

Q: Can I mount a size seal 16 on an X30 carburettor (size 18)?

A: No, the diameter and the centerpiece of the lid are not the same. A sized seal 16 will float or will not cover the seal plane of an X30 carburettor, causing an immediate fuel leak and a massive air intake. Use the version adapted to your engine.

Q: Why use cork rather than classic seal paper?

A: Liège has excellent shape memory capacity and a crushing tolerance much greater than paper on the molded aluminum surfaces of Tillotson carburetors. It is the historical and official material advocated by the mark to ensure the tightness of this circuit.
