Presentation: the millimeter sealing of the TM box

On gelling karting engines (category kz) like the famous TM R1 and TM R2, internal tightness management is a key factor in performance and reliability. This microphone 5x9x2 mm spi seal ensures a critical function at the heart of the crankcase.

  • Strategic role: Installed specifically at the primary transmission shaft, it prevents gearbox oil from infiltrating outward or clutch elements, while maintaining the perfect seal required for the correct operation of the rapid rotation trees.

  • High resistance material: Designed in fluorocarbon (Viton) or high-performance nitrile type, capable of supporting the high rotational regimes, high oil temperatures as well as the aggressiveness of competition lubricants.

  • Precision dimensions: Its ultra-specific ratings of 5 mm (interior) x 9 mm (outside) x 2 mm (thickness) are machined to integrate perfectly into the motor carters of the TM R1 / R2 generation.

- Tips for laying a micro seal spi

  1. Clinical cleaning: Before inserting the new seal, impeccably clean the housing housing and the surface of the primary shaft. The slightest box filing would destroy the joint lip in a few towers.

  2. Lubrication of the lip: Apply a fine drop of new gear oil on the inner lip of the spi seal before putting on the shaft. This avoids a "dry" start-up that instantly burn rubber at first starter / stroller.

  3. Right fitting: Saw its very small thickness (2 mm), this seal must be inserted perfectly flat. Use a socket or jet at the outer diameter of the seal (9 mm) to gently push it at the bottom of its housing without deforming it.

💡 Michel's trick

"On a KZ engine like TM R1 or R2, small spi joints are often those for quick revisions, until you go to the oil to ooze under the engine! The trick: Given the tiny internal diameter of 5 mm, extremely captured when you switch the gasket on the splines or the threads of the primary shaft. The strong steel stops can cut the micro-lip of the new seal without you realizing it. My Pro Council: Wrap a small end of very fine electrician scotch on the tank stops to make a smooth ramp, slide the spi gasket, and remove the scotch. This is the assurance of a 100% waterproof mounting! "

❓ FAQ SEO (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Is this 5x9x2 mm spi seal compatible with the old TM KZ10B or KZ10C engines ?

A: Although many box pieces are common at TM Racing, check the burst of your version. This seal is specifically validated for generation crankcase architectures R1 and R2.

Q: Should we replace this attached with each disassembly of the gearbox ?

A: Yes, it's strongly recommended. A spi seal that has already been pressed and has undergone thermal cycles loses its elasticity to disassembly. The replacement systematically will save you from having to reopen a complete engine for a leak at 3 euros.
