In the world of karting, the geometry of the front axle is paramount. The kingpin is not simply a bolt; it is the vertical axis of rotation around which the steering knuckle turns when you steer.

The engineers ofOTK design these shafts with extremely strict machining tolerances. A shaft that is too soft could bend under the effects of cornering loads, blocking the steering or creating unpredictable kart behavior. Conversely, a shaft that is too brittle could break upon impact.

"Michel, our chassis expert, recommends: A slightly bent pivot axle, even if imperceptible to the naked eye, can cause understeer or oversteer issues and wear your tires unevenly. During every major service, check that the axle slides freely in its bushings (or bearings) without the slightest tight spot. For optimal assembly, apply a thin layer of grease or dry lubricant to the axle body to facilitate movement and protect against corrosion. Also remember to use a new self-locking nut (Nyloc type) to ensure that the axle does not come loose on the track.
