Kit Description and Contents

The kit is delivered complete to equip a set of wheels (2 front rims and 2 rear rims, or 4 rims depending on the type of fitment.) It includes:

• Number of screws: 12 gripster screws (Quantity generally suitable for equipping 3 screws per rim, standard Birel/Freeline.)

• Screw type: Knurled-head screw with threaded section, designed to bite into the tire bead.

• Sealing gaskets: 24 o-rings (2 joints per screw, one on each side of the rim) to ensure perfect air-tightness in the tire.

📖 The Little Story: Why Use Gripsters ?

In karting, the lateral and longitudinal forces are enormous. During strong acceleration when exiting a corner, the tire, that adheres to the track, tends to want to remain in place while the rim, powered by the engine, it spins. This phenomenon creates significant shear force at the tire bead.

Without Gripster, the tire can “spin” on the rim. Not only does this cause a loss of acceleration, but above all, this can lead to a sudden loss of pressure, the tire could detach from the rim bead.

Freeline, in collaboration with the BirelArt racing department, developed this simple but incredibly effective system. The rim lock screws pass through the rim, and their knurled heads embed themselves in the tire bead. The seals ensure that the rim remains airtight. “Michel, our equipment expert, recommends: When fitting new tires, make sure the rim lock screws are fully loosened (flush with the rim) before seating the tire bead. Once the tire is in place, hand-tighten the rim locks using the tool provided until the screw head is in contact with the tire bead, then give it one final quarter turn. Do not tighten them like a wheel nut—just enough to secure the tire. Remember to check the condition of the seals every time you change a tire; cracked seals will cause a loss of pressure.”

⚠️ Safety advice: Loose gripsters can damage the tire bead and cause a slow puncture. Excessive tightening could, in the long run, crack the rim around the hole. Follow your mechanic’s recommendations.
