Summary: The choice of rigidity

The hub of 35 mm long is considered a "short hub". In karting, the choice of hub length is a fundamental adjustment tool:

  • Short hub (35 mm): It offers less contact surface with the axle than models of 75 or 90 mm. This usually allows to have a "freer" behavior of the rear train, helping the chassis to be free from curve, ideal on tracks with a lot of grip (adhesion).

- Mounting Tuto: Pro Rules

Even if the assembly is fast, compliance with the procedure ensures that your rear train will work properly.

  1. Preparation:

    • Clean the axle perfectly where the hub will be placed (brake cleaner + cloth).

    • Check that the axle key is clean.

  2. Installation:

    • Slide the hub on the axle. If you feel resistance, check that there is no burr on the axle. Never force the hammer.

  3. Tightening (critical point):

    • Position the hub at the desired width.

    • Tighten the clamping bolts gradually by alternating between the screws.

    • Do not block excessively: Tightening too violent can crush the aluminum and mark the axle. Firm tightening is sufficient.

  4. Alignment:

    • Check that the hub rotates "round". If the wheel oscillates, it is because the hub is misplaced or the axle took a shot.

💡 Michel's trick

"We often neglect the cleaning of the contact surface between the hub and the axle. The trick: If you often change the width adjustment, it creates a thin layer of oxidation (aluminum dust) that ends up paste the hub. My Pro Council: Whenever you disassemble your hubs, pass a very fine scotch-brittle shot on the axle to remove this oxidation. This will prevent your hubs from stay blocked and will allow you to slide your hubs easily on the track during last minute settings. "

❓ FAQ SEO (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q: Is a 35 mm hub is more fragile than a 75 mm ?A: No more fragile at the structural level, but as it has a shorter clamping surface on the axle, it is crucial to tighten the bolts to prevent it from slipping on the axle in case of shock or strong support.

Q: Can we put 35 mm hubs on a very hard axle ?A: Yes, it is a combination often used. If you have a hard axle (ex: H or Q type) that makes "jump" the kart, pass on 35 mm short hubs is an excellent solution to give the rear train flexibility without changing the complete axle.

You now have the rooms to refine your chassis. For a sustainable installation:

  • [Goujons de rechange] (Always have a game in his crate).

  • [Nettoyant frein] (Indispensable to degrease the axle before assembly).
