The X30 / KA100 valve mounting screws (mark #171 on the broken view of the X30 and #70 on the KA100) is a small specific screw used for hold the valve box on the engine crankcase. It ensures the strength of the fixing while guaranteeing thesealing of intake flow between the crankcase and the block valves.

Role of the valve mounting screw

This screw keeps the valve box, an essential component of the two-stroke engine. The valve box regulates the passage of the air-gasoline mixture:

  • it opens when the piston rises (creating depression in the housing),
  • and close when the plunger comes down again (preventing the return of the mixture).

The fixing screw must therefore ensure:

  • one reliable clamping so that the valve stays perfectly in place despite the vibrations,
  • a complete sealing between the joint plane of the crankcase and the valve plate,
  • and one dimensional stability to prevent air leakage or distortion of the housing.

A leak or release at this location would have immediate effects on engine operation (loss of pressure in the lower engine, disturbed mixing, unstable idle).

Characteristics

  • Threading : fine metric (adapted to the IAME crankcase, usually M5).
  • Length : calculated to firmly tighten the valve plate without excess (often around 12-16 mm).
  • Head : six-sided or cruciform depending on the version, with the possibility of using a possible puck to distribute the pressure.
  • Material : treated or stainless steel according to series, resistant to heat and vibration.

On modern motors, IAME uses specific screws to ensure precise and reproducible torque, ensuring that the valves rest perfectly flat.

Assembly tips

  • Always use IAME original screws, because their length and strength are adapted to the type of housing.
  • Tighten the recommended torque to avoid crushing the joint plane or distorting the plate.
  • Regularly check the clamping, as the two-stroke engine vibrations can cause a slight release over time.

The valve fixing screws It may seem trivial, but it plays a critical role: it conditions the Clamp closure accuracy and therefore the quality of admission. On a competitive engine such as the X30 or the KA100, a simple poor clamping at this level can result in clearly noticeable performance losses.
